Lake Kanyaboli has embarked on a “One Million” tree planting exercise by involving the young school going children in and around the Siaya County. This is a very important homegrown exercise in giving back to the community and a perfect opportunity to show commitment to the environment, build relationships and have fun at the same time. .
The Tree planting exercise will go a long way to benefit the local community, sustain the local environment tremendously by enhancing an accommodating habitat to sustain a green society while curbing global warming which in the present day is a threat and challenge to the world at large.
While planting the trees, the school pupils will also learn the all-important lesson of environmental conservation, soil erosion and control, how to plant trees and care for them, how to maintain the soil moisture and the general caring of the trees till they flourish. This will be an annual exercise to challenge and train a young and enthusiastic young generation that cares for the environment and will in the future generations create a big impact in environmental conservation efforts at the same time making a difference while providing a sustainable solution to a global problem with the aim of curbing the adverse effects of global warming.
